NEXUS Interview Guide

This guide will help with everything you need to know to prepare for and book your NEXUS interview at Buffalo-Ft. Erie EC (Alternate) (Fort Erie).

Step 1 - Apply for NEXUS

You must first apply for the NEXUS program through the DHS Trusted Traveler Programs website. You will be asked to pay a $50 fee for a 5 year membership. You will also have to fill out questions regarding your background.

Note: NEXUS is a joint program between the U.S. and Canadian governments designed for travelers who frequently cross the U.S.-Canadian border.

Step 2 - Wait for conditional approval

After your application has been submitted, you will have to wait for conditional approval. Conditional approval means that you have been pre approved for the NEXUS program, but you need to schedule an interview to finalize your application.

The conditional approval process can take anywhere from 24 hours to multiple months, depending on the volume of applications, your background, etc.

Step 3 - Schedule Your NEXUS interview

Congratulations! You've been conditionally approved for NEXUS. The next step is to schedule your interview at Buffalo-Ft. Erie EC (Alternate) (Fort Erie).

Directions: The first step in the process is the Canadian interview, IN CANADA (your appointment time), and the second step in the process is the United States interview, IN THE UNITED STATES. YOU HAVE TO COMPLETE BOTH THE CANADIAN AND UNITED STATES INTERVIEWS TO COMPLETE THE INTERVIEW PROCESS!! Location of the Canadian interview (THE FIRST STEP): 10 Central Ave Ft. Erie, Ontario, Canada L2A 3S6 Directions to Ft. Erie location: Physically located on the Canadian side of the Peace Bridge which connects Buffalo, NY and Ft. Erie, ON. From Canada – QEW to Ft. Erie, ON – Central Ave exit. Right at the traffic light. Left into the parking lot on Central Ave. Follow signs marked “Enrollment Centre” to enter the building. Entrance is on the Central Ave and Garrison Rd intersection. From USA – Peace Bridge to Ft. Erie, ON – Central Ave exit (after toll). Right at the stop sign. Left into the parking lot on Central Ave. Follow signs marked “Enrollment Centre” to enter the building. Entrance is on the Central Ave and Garrison Rd intersection. Location of the United States interview (THE SECOND STEP): 1 Peace Bridge Plaza Buffalo, New York 14213 Directions to Buffalo location: Physically located on the United States side of the Peace Bridge which connects Buffalo, NY and Ft. Erie, ON. From Canada (every applicant will be arriving from Canada) – Peace Bridge to Buffalo, NY. After completing immigration/customs inspection, park in the designated location and enter the Peace Bridge Cargo Facility/Warehouse by using the double glass doors at the top of the stairs at the main entrance to the right of the cargo bays/docks. Take the first hallway on the right and enter Room 145. Please take a seat and wait patiently.

Notes: **OPEN with new two-step interview process; PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!** CHECKLIST BEFORE ARRIVAL: • Bring physical printout of appointment confirmation – NO digital/phone copies! • FIRST, arrive in Canada for Canadian interview (THIS IS YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME) • SECOND, immediately after Canadian interview, return directly to the United States for the United States interview (no additional appointment required) 1) You must bring a physical printout of your appointment confirmation. 2) You MUST bring proof of citizenship (NO COPIES) to your interview. 3) You must schedule an appointment for each applicant in your family or domicile. If there are not enough appointments available on a particular day to accommodate the members of your family, you must select another day. Appointments are not required to be in sequential time slots as you may all arrive at any one of the appointment times. 4) If you have ever been arrested, you must bring original court documentation for each arrest that clearly identifies the charge and disposition of each charge. 5) Applicants who require a visa must provide a valid I-94 at the time of the interview. This includes those participating in the Visa Waiver Program. 6) Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. NOTE: If the interview is for a child under the age of 18 AND both parents do not attend the interview, the non-attending parent or legal guardian must sign a letter of consent agreeing to the minor’s enrollment in the Trusted Traveler Program. To expedite the process, please email BuffaloTTP@cbp.dhs.gov and input "Letter of Consent" into the subject line to obtain an advanced copy. In cases of sole custody or if only one parent is recorded on the minor's birth certificate, the parent or legal guardian does not require a consent letter but must provide proof of sole custody agreement or long form birth certificate. FAST applicants: Bring evidence of employment with a certified trucking company (ie paystubs)
